Lyme Disease

Welcome to summer and the possibility of contracting Lyme disease from ticks.  Test you knowledge on the signs and symptoms of this particular disease.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection contracted from the deer tick or black-legged  It is found in the Northeast, Minnesota and Wisconsin and northern California but recent surveys find it in half of US counties.   Following a bite from an infected tick, a bull’s eye rash can be seen. Other symptoms include a headache, myalgia, arthralgia, fever, malaise, sensory neurological symptoms and neck stiffness.  Cardiac symptoms can include atrioventricular block, left ventricular dysfunction and cardiomegaly.
